Psalms of the Summer
Bible Reading Plan
The book of Psalms, is a collection of 150 sacred songs or poems that were, and still are, used as an expression of worship or prayer. Whether it’s your first time engaging with the Psalms or your 150th, whether you gather with friends or steal a few quiet moments alone — join in this summer as we collectively sing (well, actually read) through a summer of Psalms.
Each week, you will follow the same pattern, and repeatedly engage with one Psalm. This deep interaction will allow you slow down to uncover themes that will spark, build and sustain your faith. You can follow the steps all in one sitting, while meeting with others, or complete one step each day of the week. Let’s face it, summer is a time where we tend to throw rhythms out the window, but the goal is to choose a rhythm that is sustainable for your summer schedule.
Tips:
Choose a version of the Bible that you enjoy interacting with — we recommend the New International Version (NIV) or the Christian Standard Bible (CSB)
Keep one journal for the whole summer
Check out the schedule + instructions below. Bonus: add it to the calendar of your choice!

Steps to Engage with Scripture
01 WRITE
Copy the entire Psalm into a journal. You got this! Underline words or phrases that stand out.
02 REFLECT
Reflect on what stood out and how it applies to here and now.
What themes am I experiencing from this Psalm? What emotions or bodily reactions come up for me as I read the Psalm? What am I resistant to? What brings me joy or peace? What in this scripture makes me feel close to God? What does this scripture tell me about God’s character?
03 PRAY
Rewrite the Psalm as your own prayer back to God.
04 REST
Be silent and still for 5 minutes. Rest in God’s presence - bonus if you’re able to get outside for this. Choose one line or phrase from the Psalm to repeat as a way to center you when you get distracted.
05 ACT
What is God teaching you about [insert weekly topic here!] ? What are you going to do about it?
